About Our Seeds
The Jefferson Seed Library is entirely donation-dependent. Our seeds come from 3 primary sources:
ONE–donations from seed companies. TWO–donations from community members, which are usually seeds they, themselves saved. THREE–donations from the Jefferson Public Library.
Due to the popularity of the JSL, the Jefferson Public Library has generously offered a small budget to purchase seeds. Starting in 2022, Seed Library members have the opportunity to request seeds that the Jefferson Public Library will purchase for the JSL catalog.
Some of our seeds are grown and saved by community members with love and care, but may not meet state germination or purity standards.
At the Jefferson Public Library, we try our best to ensure the quality of our seed using the best practices, inventory care, and labeling. Nonetheless, seeds are alive and people using the Seed Library have varying degrees of skill in saving seeds. You should know, that you might experience low germination rates or receive seeds that were not properly labeled, or may not produce true-to-type due to cross-pollination. The Seed Library is solely dependent on donations and we do the best with the time and resources we have.
Patented seeds or varieties protected by the Plant Variety Protection Act will not be accepted or distributed without the permission of the certificate holder.
If you have any problems with the seed you get from the Seed Library, please let us know so we can try to fix it. Email us at ejones@prlib.org. Thanks for your interest in our seeds!
